The Forum holds events across the year where keynote speakers are invited to give a talk on a topic of interest to the membership and a second speaker from the sector provides a response. After the talk there is an opportunity to network with other members and our sponsors.

Annual UBS investment lecture
and update on CAIFs

The main speaker will be Dean Turner, UK Economist at UBS Wealth Management, who will be providing a highly informative briefing on the state of investments in what has become our annual update on investments.
Dean Turner has over 20 years’ experience in investment strategy at HSBC and Barclays Wealth and Gerrard Investment Management and is now Head of UK Investment Office- UBS Wealth Management. Dean is an experienced economist and strategist specialising in. macroeconomics, political analysis, FX, and fixed income and is a regular commentator on the economy and markets with the financial media. Now a regular speaker with the Forum we look forward to welcoming him again.
This will be followed by an introduction from Julian Smith a Partner in the Charity and Community Team at Farrer & Co into Charity Authorised Investment Funds (CAIFs), a relatively new investment fund vehicle designed specifically for the charity sector. The first CAIF was registered with the Charity Commission on 12 December 2017 and since then a number of CAIFs have been established.
Julian has been advising charities and other not-for-profit bodies since 1994. He is a former Chair of the CLA, having served on its Exec Committee since 2006 and as a member of its Tax Standing Committee since its inception. Julian writes and lectures regularly in the sector, including as an author of part of Tudor on Charities, and Chairs or acts as a trustee of six charities. Julian is also a member of the Management Board at Farrer & Co and manages Business Development for the firm.
The formal proceedings will finish about 17:15 followed by networking with fellow treasurers and our sponsors over drinks and snacks until 18:30.
Note: entry to the Forum meeting is free for those who are paid up members of the Forum. Guests and non-paying members will be restricted to one free entry place in the year. Thereafter the ticket price is £30 for non-members.
